From the time she was old enough to toddle into a kitchen, Krista Alm began preparing fresh-grown food on her family’s Leesburg, Indiana farm and eventually racked up 4-H ribbons and awards for her skills in cooking, baking, and food preservation. She earned a degree in Family and Consumer Science Education from Purdue University in 2000. Over the last 18 years, she has enjoyed teaching high school Family and Consumer Science classes including Introduction to Foods, Baking, and Advanced Foods and Nutrition, as well as several adult cooking classes in both Indiana and Ohio.
In 2007, Krista took a break from the classroom when her husband accepted a job in Atlanta, GA and the family moved to the South. During her time in Atlanta, she focused on her growing family, learning new cooking techniques, and teaching friends and neighbors about meal planning.
When her husband’s job was transferred to Cleveland, OH in 2009, she created the popular meal planning and cooking blog, Krista’s Kitchen www.kristaskitchen.com which features weekly meal plans, grocery lists, and over 700 delicious step-by-step recipes. During this time, she also became a food columnist for the local paper, taught adult cooking classes for several companies, served as a personal chef and small event caterer, and was a Pampered Chef consultant.
Eventually, Krista returned to the classroom full-time, teaching life skills and culinary arts for the Ohio Department of Youth Services.
She is currently a registered Servsafe Instructor. In this role, she prepares managers for food safety and sanitation certifications.
As a busy mother of three children, Krista recognizes the demands of balancing work and family life and is passionate about helping other families to sit down together for good, healthy, home-cooked meals.
